It’s day 2 of dry shampoo,
Another ponytail,
But I will sleep in peace tonight:
I can’t deny myself.
I could have washed the dishes,
Swept the floor, or folded clothes.
Instead I sat and scribbled
And let peace dissolve my soul.
Don’t give me any honors
And I don’t need your awards.
I only want some peace and quiet
To think about it more.
For I did not eat cake today
And walked right past the fridge.
But I’ve indulged on words and thought:
The apple is my friend.
And I will not feel guilty
For this satisfying feat.
In fact I’ll do another
For my eyes alone to see.
Your once a week or once a month:
Too clinical for me.
For every day is not enough
Since I have broken free.
It’s day 2 of dry shampoo.
I know the feeling well.
So let’s all sleep in peace tonight.
Refuse the lie they sell.
