Sometimes I like a cup a little late,
But better drink it down before the clock
Strikes four, or else I will regret my fate.
I’ll need a pill: the key to sleep unlock.
Or else lie there, a smile upon my face.
My mind is active—hamster on a wheel
Just like the fan above, the outline trace
Of entertaining thoughts: a movie reel.
If I could just get up and write them down
I’d have a novel in an evening’s time.
Creation’s disposition is unwound
Then knitted in a story, line by line.
But just as soon as I resolve to move
The caffeine’s gone. My only choice? To snooze.
