Sabbath

“Take a break, take a rest,”
Said the Lord, “Here, be My guest,
For it’s only for your best:
Take a rest.”

“Living hard, working long
Might be fun and isn’t wrong,
Yet it saps you of your song.
You’re not that strong.”

“You can’t stop? That’s a lie.
Keep on going—you could die.
Lose your soul and yet you cry
There’s more to buy.”

“I must work. I must move.”
But God said, “Stop trying to prove,
For I’ve given all for you:
This is the truth.”

“Come to me—I have won!
On your own you’ll come undone,
And I call to everyone
Forsaking none.”

“Live in Me and find peace,
In your soul a sweet release
Let Me sculpt you as I please,
My masterpiece.”

“Let it go—all your fear,
For I promise I am near.
Every word you speak, I hear.
I see your tears.”

“Honor Me with your life.
Let faith grow and so abide
In My will and not your pride.
I am your Guide.”

“Gather here, in My nest,
Under My wing, you’ll be blessed.
Do not worry: For I give
You perfect rest.”

There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his.
