Playing Office

Better than I was before
But not as good as yesterday.
Kick the can and bust the door,
Instead of screaming, maybe pray.

Throw my keys and hit the wall.
They left a mark? Oh well, who cares!
But just right now I got a call,
So push it down, avoid the stares.

“I just wanted to touch base,
circle the wagons,
revisit that concept,
come back to that,
check-in with you,
RE:
the meeting,
the date,
the training,
the webinar,
the contract,
the conference,
the portal,
the budget,
the files,
the party,
the hearing,
the spreadsheet.”

In my mind I’m on the bridge.
I press the button, window down,
Running sixty, hit the ridge,
And fling my phone so I don’t drown,

Then head to town so I can take
Those damned flamingos, every one
Green ribboned necks and metal stakes,
And fling them. Watch them come undone!

“Yes,” I say, with a smile, “I can make that happen. I’ll mark it on my calendar.”
